so just that alone makes the day extremely special. >> do you take bill to be your wedded husband? >> reporter: a magical day made even more memorable thanks to a special guest, mayor stephanie rawlings-blake got ordained just so she could marry them and other couples. >> i'm available. just tell me what date you want. >> reporter: her calendar likely booked as couples line up to take advantage of the new law. this couple drove up from south carolina to get married on this special night. they're part of maryland's history, although their union won't be honored at home. >> our paperwork will not be recognized from the state level but it doesn't mean less to us. >> reporter: the significance is still there for these couples. but they want more than symbolism. bill wants quality thy across

are there enough republican votes to pass it? today house speaker john boehner huddled behind closed doors with his caucus and there was universal concern. house minority leader nancy pelosi said boehner needs to allow for a straight up or down vote to the senate bill, no changes. >> our speaker has said when the senate acts, we will have a vote in the house. that is what he said. that is what we expect. that is what the american people deserve. >> reporter: early this morning the senate passed overwhelming bipartisan support that would extend the deal that would prevent tax hikes on estates more than $5 million and extend unemployment benefits for some 2 million people. since congress missed the deadline last night, technically the country has already gone over the fiscal cliff. the bush-era tax cuts have expired so everybody's tax rates

conditions are still dry. clouds are holding tough around the area. that storm is staying south and still pretty cloudy around here. again, we stayed nice and dry. upper 30s in reisterstown, hick core ri and man chester. 42 in pape pea. cloudy and dry, getting cold. colder still as we go into tomorrow and the middle part of the week. we've got those numbers straight ahead. new tonight a teen killed in a car crash in aberdeen. the victim, 17-year-old austin remines was driving his car when he hit a car traveling the opposite direction. remines died at the hospital. the other driver was not hurt. two people were killed, two others hurt in san francisco after a char speeding awhat from police -- car speeding away from police crashed into another car. police responded and found a

black car. when officers walked up to that driver, he sped off and crashed into another car who, in turn, crashed into the person walking into the store. the passenger in the car and the pedestrian were both killed in the accident. a parking lot scuffle gets nasty in georgia. she hit a teen with her suv. angela got into an argument with a 17-year-old girl who was saving a parking space for a friend at walmart. >> she told her to move. then she pulled in and hit her with the tire of the vehicle. i did see a executive mark on her knee. >> the driver claimed she told the teen to move and the girl leaned against the suv and started yelling but the walmart security camera shows the driver striking the teen with the vehicle. the teen was not seer yesly hurt. a baby girl is rescued from the cold waters of san diego bay after she tripped and fell in

and the father had to jump in to save her. more people ran over to make sure that the two were okay. >> nobody better than the crowds -- everybody came to comfort child. >> the paramedics took her to the hospital. she is expected to be okay. secretary of state hillary clinton remains hospitalized in new york this new year's day, being treated for a blood clot. doctors said she was lucky enough to not suffer a stroke. >> reporter: hillary clinton is spending the first day of the new year in a hospital room. she's being closely monitored by her doctors after they gave her blood thin ares to break up a clot in her head. >> the goal is to dissolve the clot. >> reporter: the blood clot was discovered on a brain scan on

sunday. on new year's eve the doctors said the clot is situated in a space won the brain and skull behind the right ear. dr. . richard besser said this is a setback. >> this is a much more serious complication than a clot in the leg. a clot in the transverse sinus, a large brain along the side of the brain is a potentially life-threatening complication. >> reporter: clinton originally fell ill during a stomach virus at the bang of the month. days later she hit her head after fainting at home, suffering a concussion. 1998 clinton was hospitalized for a clot behind her right knee, following a busy travel expowd while campaigning pass first lady. >> does she have a problem with clotting in general? if she does, she might have to be on medication for that. >> reporter: clinton's doctors

year's day. take a look at baltimore, dark and chilly. the winds northwest at 6. weather in motion through the first day of the 2013 year and finding basically nothing but a gray sky and chilly temps, dry weather the story all across the area. parkville that was the keel-- deem and in annapolis, a dry, dry day and few chilly sailors. current winds are north and westerly. they're light and insignificant. temperatures not brutal for early january standards. we do have 30s out to the northwest and west, mid-40s in the area. we'll be colder tomorrow. take a look across howard county. we may struggle to get out of the upper 30s, a partly cloudy scenario. you can see the setup keeping the active weather to our south. that's going to continue to be the case into the overnight.

we think all the wet weather stays south. it's not much wet weather to begin with. as we go through the next two days abundant sunshine. clouds mixed with the sun. want to keep the sunglasses handy. it won't ab crystal blue sky. we're also going to have cold air punching. you see how cold it is to the north. 15 in des moines. 22 in chicagoland. that cold air slowly sinking. tomorrow we struggle to get out of the mid-30s. that settles in tomorrow night as we see a big time freeze. again, overall, the pattern is a quiet one, but one that will feature colder weather. that's canadian pressure. as that settles in, we'll have dry weather, some sunshine breaking through the clouds and we'll have the cold core of the hair that comes in with that high pressure center. tonight down to 27, partly cloudy as we get colder out there tomorrow.

realistic about what you can accomplish. it's very hard for people to lose 100-pounds in a year. set out to do what's attainable. next, you need a plan. you might set a goal of working out three day as week and decreasing portion sizes. >> things aren't going to change because you want them to. they're going to change because you will change behaviors. >> reporter: you need to have short-term gelees a year is too long. set a goal for a week, two weeks at most and see how you're doing. >> reporter: the best thing could be resilience. >> expect a setback and set -- get back on track. >> reporter: try to make one or two resolutions a year. more than that could be a recipe for failure. >> good tips there, be spefnlgt i like that one. kids can take a crack at new year's resolutions as well with coaching from mom and dad.
